1,025 recovered mobile phones worth ₹2.3 cr. handed over to owners at doorsteps

Date:

The Anantapur district police on Thursday (December 4) handed over 1,025 recovered mobile phones, worth ₹2.13 crore, to their owners as part of the ‘Mee Mobile – Mee Intiki’ doorstep delivery initiative.

Superintendent of Police P. Jagadeesh launched the programme at the District Police Office here. Following the SP’s instructions, Village Police Officers (VPOs) and local SIs from all 42 police stations in the district visited households to hand over the recovered devices, bringing relief to persons who had lost their phones.

The SP said the phones were traced through complaints filed via the CEIR portal and chatbot services, with support from cyber and technical teams using IMEI-based tracking.

Mr. Jagadeesh said that ensuring the safety of citizens’ property is a top priority for the police, and the new initiative aims at delivering services more transparently, efficiently and reliably. The district police have so far recovered and returned 13,619 mobile phones worth ₹26.24 crore since the launch of dedicated recovery services in June 2022.

Of the recovered devices, 1,182 were traced to other States and 2,858 to 18 districts across Andhra Pradesh. The recovered phones range in value from ₹499 to ₹1.41 lakh.

The police also cautioned the public against buying second-hand phones without bills or from unknown individuals at bus stands, railway stations and hospitals, and urged mobile shop owners to alert police if someone attempts to sell undocumented devices.
