Ice Spice seems to understand the power of a good pun. At the Paramount Pictures Screening Room in NYC on Wednesday for a premiere of The SpongeBob Movie: Search For SquarePants, she rocked her bikini bottom. The rapper wore a white lace dress that was translucent, revealing a white bikini bottom underneath. The internet is having a pearl-clutching spiral about it.
What I’m spiraling about is the connection between Ice Spice and SpongeBob. (Oh yeah, this fucking banger!) Turns out this is a full-circle moment for sure. She has a role in the new film voicing an amusement park worker/ticket taker. The role follows her acting debut from earlier this year in Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest.
Also, last month she released a single “Big Guy” for the new SpongeBob film, which although incredibly underwhelming, highlights the double standard of underwear displayers. (Scott thoughtfully pointed out that SpongeBob runs around in his underwear for the “Big Guy” music video.)
In spite of all this chaos, I can’t help but be happy for Ice Spice fulfilling some sort of bucket list moment — working with her only noted cartoon crush.
