A$AP Rocky Shares Winona Ryder-Starring “Punk Rocky” Video

Date:

A$AP Rocky’s long-delayed new album Don’t Be Dumb is allegedly arriving next week. Between a few release date pushbacks, Rocky has revealed that his follow-up to 2018’s Testing will boast cover art by Tim Burton, as well as musical contributions from frequent Burton collaborator Danny Elfman (controversial!). Today, Rocky has shared the video for “Punk Rocky,” which is billed as the first release from Don’t Be Dumb (I guess Jessica Pratt didn’t make the cut?) and arrives with a video starring another Burton regular: Winona Ryder.

Rocky co-wrote “Punk Rocky” with Cristoforo Donadi, Adam King Feeney, and Zach Fogarty. It doesn’t feel very punk, but it does employ some surf-y guitars as Rocky sings “I wanna fall in love/ Don’t want no broken heart/ Don’t wanna grow apart/ Take me back.”

Rocky also co-directed the video with Folkert Verdoorn and Simon Becks. Along with Ryder, it features appearances from Thundercat, A$AP Nast, and Brooks Ginnan as well as Elfman, who plays drums in Rocky’s “band” on the roof of a house in the suburbs. (Ryder’s character watches happily from the front yard.) Check it out below.

Don’t Be Dumb is out 1/16 via A$AP Worldwide/RCA Records. A$AP Rocky will make his SNL musical guest debut along another Ryder collaborator, Finn Wolfhard, the day after the album allegedly drops.
