Joe Pernice Announces New Album ‘Sunny, I Was Wrong’

Date:

The veteran singer-songwriter Joe Pernice used to lead Scud Mountain Boys, and he’s fronted the Pernice Brothers for a very long time. Their most recent LP Who Will You Believe came out in 2024. Pernice occasionally makes solo music, too. Pernice released his solo debut Big Tobacco during a Pernice Brothers hiatus in 2000. In 2020, he put out two albums that he recorded at home, Richard and the Barry Manilow tribute Could It Be Magic. Today, Pernice announces Sunny, I Was Wrong, a new solo album that he recorded in an actual studio, with help from some friends.

Last month, Joe Pernice shared a home-recorded cover of the Aimee Mann classic “Save Me.” The actual Aimee Mann makes an appearance on the Pernice-produced Sunny, I Was Wrong, and the record also has contributions from Teenage Fanclub’s Norman Blake and from legendary songwriters Rodney Crowell and Jimmy Webb. Musicians like Barenaked Ladies’ Jim Creeggan and the Sadies’ Mike Belitsky join Pernice throughout.

Today, Pernice shares the album’s lead single “The Black And The Blue,” a simple and direct chug that fits his craggy voice nicely. In a press release, Pernice says, “This is one of those songs that came to me so completely and quickly that it was almost like I was watching someone else write it.” Check out the song and the Sunny, I Was Wrong tracklist below.
