With the ruling DMK looking to accommodate more parties in its alliance in Tamil Nadu, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder and Rajya Sabha MP Kamal Haasan is reportedly in direct talks with the Dravidian party regarding seat allocation for the upcoming Assembly elections in the State.
Second-rung leaders, however, told The Hindu that they have “not been involved”, so far, in the discussions with the DMK, but added that the party would “surely” contest the upcoming Assembly elections.
The party has reportedly identified 78 constituencies where it performed well in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and the 2021 Assembly elections.
“We are definitely contesting in the Assembly elections… the negotiations are happening in the background,” said an MNM leader. He further said that the party has been working to strengthen the its structure in all 234 constituencies.
