The 16 minor students from Bihar, who were rescued by the police from the Palakkad railway station on January 12 in the absence of any valid documents with a charitable educational institution which reportedly facilitated their journey to Kerala, have been shifted to the Child Welfare Home in Kozhikode district.
There were altogether 21 students in the rescued group, of which five were sent along with their parents.
Following preliminary findings that the students were reportedly brought to a Kozhikode-based institution, the Child Welfare Committee District Collector ordered an inquiry to check the registration and other whereabouts of the firm. It would be conducted under the leadership of the District Child Protection Officer.
According to police sources, the students who were brought by train to Palakkad were from Bihar’s Kishanganj district. All of them were boys, aged between 10 and 13.
Last year too, there were attempts to bring 12 girl students to Ernakulam, who were rescued with the timely support of the police.
