to
get
a
new
park
modelled
on
Lalbagh,
dedicated
to
social
reformer
Basaveshwara,
on
forest
land
in
North
Bengaluru,
Deputy
Chief
Minister
DK
Shivakumar
announced.
A
similar
park
is
also
being
considered
for
South
Bengaluru.
Shivakumar
made
the
announcement
during
the
inauguration
of
the
219th
Lalbagh
Flower
Show,
organised
as
part
of
Republic
Day
celebrations.
The
show
this
year
is
themed
around
the
life
and
works
of
writer
Poornachandra
Tejaswi.
Bengaluru
will
get
a
Basaveshwara-themed
park
modeled
on
Lalbagh
in
North
Bengaluru,
with
a
similar
park
planned
for
South
Bengaluru,
as
announced
by
Deputy
Chief
Minister
DK
Shivakumar;
financial
assistance
will
be
provided
by
GBA
and
the
city
corporation,
while
an
international
flower
and
vegetable
market
is
also
planned.
Government
Support
for
Parks
and
Urban
Development
“Bengaluru
is
internationally
renowned
as
a
garden
city.
The
GBA
and
the
city
corporation
will
provide
financial
assistance
for
these
parks,” Shivakumar
said.
He
added
that
he
had
visited
the
city’s
parks,
consulted
residents,
and
recommended
various
development
works.
He
also
highlighted
the
state’s
flower
and
vegetable
exports,
stating
that
tonnes
are
shipped
abroad
every
week,
and
mentioned
plans
for
an
international
flower
and
vegetable
market.
Tunnel
Road
Project
Will
Not
Affect
Lalbagh
Addressing
concerns
over
the
Tunnel
Road
project
near
Lalbagh,
Shivakumar
said,”Some
people
are
worried
that
the
Metro
and
Tunnel
Road
might
affect
Lalbagh.
There
is
no
need
to
worry.
I
am
committed
to
preserving
this
historical
park.
Necessary
measures
will
be
taken
to
ensure
citizen
convenience,
and
this
will
not
create
any
problems.
Traffic
congestion
in
Bengaluru
needs
to
be
addressed.
