I don’t like cooking eggs. Sorry (not sorry), but the cracking, mess-making, and hand washing is not a ritual I’m fond of. However, because I still love to eat eggs in most formats — scrambled, poached, or fried — I make do mostly thanks to my highly accessible and super-slick egg pan.
If I’m cooking something I see as inconvenient, such as an egg, I’m not reaching for my 10-inch Lodge cast iron pan, nor am I waiting for my Viking stainless steel skillet to heat up. Nine times out of 10, I grab my Made In Cookware 8-inch ceramic nonstick frying pan. Here’s why.
Made In Cookware 8-Inch Ceramic Nonstick Frying Pan
Amazon
Under its durable ceramic nonstick coating, the bulk of this frying pan is the same as the Made In pan that aced our stainless steel skillet tests. The body comprises five layers: a stainless steel-clad body with an aluminum core surrounded by layers of aluminum alloy. Our editors found this design’s heating reactivity and evenness to be impeccable in testing, and my long-term home tests write the same story. My glass stovetop, which is just slightly off balance on my apartment floor, often causes uneven cooking across my pans. Regardless of my stove’s issues, my Made In pan has never revealed any hot spots. I simply preheat it on medium heat while I pull out my breakfast ingredients, and the entire cooking surface is ready to perform as soon as I pour eggs onto it.
Naturally, I’m not just recommending this pan because of its heating performance; rather, it’s the ease of use that puts this nonstick egg pan at the top of my list. Pulling it from my cookware storage cabinet couldn’t be less intensive, since it’s only 8 inches in diameter and under 2 pounds. The handle itself is very lightweight and stays cool, as promised by Made In. In fact, I’ve never had to use a kitchen towel or my oven mitts like I have with the other nonstick pans I’ve tested. The offset handle is almost as long as the pan, which I see as a nice touch for added safety that also gives my hands room to balance the pan.
Food & Wine
The pan’s nonstick coating is equally as superb as its other components. Made In provides a complete substance disclosure on the materials used to make the pan, and the lack of PFAS, PFOA, PTFE, and other toxic chemicals in the CeramiClad line is refreshing. I’ve cooked eggs, pancakes, tomatoes, steak bites, and other foods on the non-toxic, nonstick lining, with and without oil, and almost nothing has stuck. Some oil can cake on over time, but a simple vinegar and baking soda bath boiled on the stove takes care of that pesky mess. I would say that I wish the pan were dishwasher-safe, but it doesn’t leave a mess worth my dishwasher’s time. After it cools, I can quickly hand-wash it in under 30 seconds and let it dry in my dish rack.
If I had to change anything about the pan, it would be the round, bumpy rivets that can catch food and prolong cleaning, although negligibly so. Otherwise, the only downside is that the pan is too small for when I want to make scallion pancakes for breakfast or large-batch tomato egg stir-fry for dinner. But that’s when I use the 10-inch pan that’s just as impressive!
If you want a compact, non-toxic, and nonstick pan that makes regular egg-cooking a tolerable and sometimes even fun activity, grab the Made In 8-Inch Ceramic Nonstick Frying Pan. From the cool-touch handle to the induction-ready base, it has never let me down, and I’m confident you’ll love it just as much as I do.
