A 40-year-old sanitation worker was killed after he fell into a machine at the GHMC dumpyard in Yousufguda on Saturday (January 24, 2026) morning, triggering protests by fellow workers at the site.
The deceased was identified as Sudhakar, a resident of Borabanda, who was employed at the dumpyard. According to officials, the incident occurred while he was carrying out routine work involving the disposal of garbage.
“He climbed up to dump the garbage inside the truck and accidentally fell into the machine. He was crushed and died on the spot,” an official from the Banjara Hills zone said.
The incident led to a protest by Sudhakar’s co-workers, who alleged negligence and inadequate safety measures at the facility and also demanded action.
Madhura Nagar police have registered a case for death due to negligence against the GHMC plant manager and the private management firm Ramki. Further investigation is underway.
