Man gets life imprisonment for sexually assaulting girl on train

Date:

Kadapa POCSO Court on Wednesday (December 03) sentenced a man to life imprisonment and slapped a fine of ₹10,000 for sexually assaulting a minor girl on a moving train six years ago, while awarding ₹10.50 lakh compensation to the victim.

Kadapa POCSO Court Judge C. Praveen Kumar has ordered Guntakal Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) to pay the compensation amount to the girl. He also recommended departmental action against the TTI (Travelling Ticket Inspector) who was on duty on the date of the incident.

According to verdict, the convict chased and sexually assaulted an eight-year-old girl, who was travelling with her parents on Rayalaseema Superfast Express, when she went to the toilet on 27-01-2019. Hearing the girl’s screams, her parents, passengers and vendors rushed to the spot and found the girl bleeding due to the assault. The passengers caught the perpetrator and handed him over to the TTI on duty.

However, when the train reached Kadapa Railway Station, he jumped off the train and escaped. On the complaint of the victim’s mother, a case was registered at Secunderabad Railway Police Station (RPS) and transferred it to Kadapa RPS.

The case was filed under Section 376(2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant provisions of the POCSO Act. Railway DSP (Retd) Ramesh investigated the case and filed a chargesheet. The accused was identified as 28-year-old mason from Kadapa town Gali Ramprasad Reddy.

The conviction resulted from the hard work by Kadapa RPS head constable M. Nagaraju Naik, and coordinated efforts of POCSO Court Public Prosecutors Kommineni Venugopal and S. Rama Subbareddy argued the case.
