Jonny Greenwood Has “No Idea” if Radiohead Will Make New Music

Date:

Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead discussed the band’s recent comeback tour, noting that he was “surprised” the tour even happened and went so well. He also addressed the status of a new Radiohead album.

Speaking to The Times, Greenwood expressed gratitude at the chance to return to Radiohead material for their brief 2025 European tour. “It was great to revisit songs that we always felt were good and to find lots of other people now agree with us,” he said. “And it was really nice to be playing and listening to Thom [Yorke] again.” However, Greenwood noted that it was strange to be on tour with Radiohead and not play any new songs. “I found it strange not to be doing anything new on the tour. I guess we are all doing new music elsewhere now so that’s where our creative energies are going.”

Regarding the possibility of a new Radiohead album, Greenwood said he has “no idea.” “I mean, I’m surprised that the tour actually happened and that we all enjoyed it so much,” he said. “But venues get booked so far in advance. To do another we would have to decide now, and even then it wouldn’t happen for 18 months.” So while a follow-up to 2016’s A Moon Shaped Pool will have to wait, it’s nice to hear that according to Greenwood, they all had a good time being back on the road.

In addition to discussing his Oscar-nominated score for One Battle After Another, Greenwood also touched on the controversies around his collaboration with Israeli singer Dudu Tassa and his performances in Israel. “It’s very hard to talk about this,” Greenwood said, “but I think music and art should be above and beyond political concerns… If I’m supposed to stop working with musicians because I dislike their governments then I wouldn’t work with any of them. The fact is, what defines us as musicians isn’t our nationalities. But that point doesn’t seem to get through.”
