West Bengal set for multi-phase polling
During the 2021 Assembly elections, West Bengal voted over eight phases, the highest for any state in that cycle. Assam held elections in three phases the same year, while Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry completed polling in a single phase each.
The Commission has already deployed approximately 480 battalions of central security forces to West Bengal. In a significant change from past practice, the deployment of these forces will now be decided by police observers appointed by the Commission in consultation with district officials.
