“Our softness is not a liability. Our death is not that,” the actress—who shares kids Junie, 10, and Rue Rose, 5, with ex Iman Shumpert—said. “It’s not too much. Our light does not need permission to shine. We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter and our dreams deserve space.”
The achievement wasn’t lost on the “Gonna Love Me” singer, who reflected on the journey that eventually led her to gold.
“Thank you @goldenglobes for seeing me, not just in this performance, but in the journey,” she wrote on Instagram alongside a snap of herself holding her trophy. “I’ve been at this for 20 years, so this award doesn’t only represent this role… it represents every season, every sacrifice, every yes, every no, and all the love and life I’ve poured into my work and into others along the way.”
She concluded, “Purpose doesn’t rush. It arrives right on time.”
