Delhi rain: Delhi finally got a much-needed respite on Wednesday as heavy pre-monsoon rain lashed the city, sending temperatures tumbling and offering relief from the scorching heat. The downpour, accompanied by gusty winds and intermittent thunderstorms, swept across the capital and neighboring cities, including Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad, as a fast-moving weather system advanced from northern India.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued alerts for Delhi and surrounding regions, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall, lightning, and winds reaching 30-40 km/h. The showers arrived after a brief sandstorm, which had turned the streets dusty and disrupted normal activity. Once the rain hit, however, the mercury dipped noticeably, and residents welcomed the cooler, fresher air.

Heavy pre-monsoon rain and gusty winds hit Delhi and NCR on Wednesday, significantly lowering temperatures and offering relief from heat, with the IMD predicting continued unsettled weather.

Delhi rain

IMD forecasts indicate that Delhi and the wider NCR will continue to experience unsettled weather over the next three days, with intermittent rainfall and thunderstorms expected to keep temperatures lower than usual for this time of year. Authorities have advised people to take precautions during periods of gusty winds and avoid low-lying areas prone to waterlogging.

For many Delhiites, the sudden rain brought not just a drop in temperature but also relief from the oppressive pre-monsoon heat. Streets glistened with wet surfaces, the air felt cleaner and cooler, and the characteristic smell of wet earth signaled a brief yet welcome break before the arrival of the full monsoon season.
