Rampachodavaram Sub-Collector Subham Nokwal on Monday issued a fresh notification for separate magisterial inquiries to be conducted on December 27 into two encounters in which 13 Maoists, including commander Madvi Hidma, were killed. The encounters took place in the Maredumilli Agency area of Alluri Sitharama Raju district on November 18 and 19.
The first phase of the magisterial inquiry into the two incidents was held at the Sub-Collector’s office in Rampachodavaram on December 15 and 16.
Speaking to The Hindu over the phone on Monday, Mr. Subham Nokwal said the second phase of the inquiry was being conducted to provide an opportunity to all stakeholders involved in the encounters, as well as members of the public, to submit statements and information related to the incidents.
On permitting civil society representatives to carry out fact-finding, Mr. Nokwal said a Hyderabad-based advocate had been allowed to visit the sites of the two encounters. He added that the Alluri Sitharama Raju district police had been directed to deploy police personnel to accompany the advocate during the visit.
