At a time when LPG shortages are disrupting food supply for small hotels, hostels, and labour camps, a timely intervention has rolled onto the streets of Thrissur. Shanthibhavan Eats, a food cart initiative led by Shanthibhavan Palliative Hospital, has been launched to provide hygienic and affordable meals to the public.

The initiative was flagged off at the Thrissur Archdiocese premises by Archbishop Mar Andrews Thazhath, who is also the Chief Patron of the hospital. He noted that Shanthibhavan’s proactive response during crises — from the COVID-19 pandemic to the current LPG shortage — sets a commendable example of social responsibility.

The food cart uses biogas generated from the hospital’s own biogas plant, effectively bypassing the LPG crisis while ensuring uninterrupted cooking. The project aims to deliver wholesome and tasty food at minimal cost, especially targeting bulk consumers such as small eateries, hostels, hospital canteens, government canteens, mess facilities, and labour camps.

The menu includes staple items like puttu, idli, noolappam, and a variety of curries. Prices are kept highly affordable, with idlis priced at ₹4 each, noolappam at ₹5, and a serving of puttu at ₹10. Sambar, chutney, and other side dishes are also available.

With the capacity to supply food in bulk, based on demand, the food cart is expected to bring significant relief to sectors hit hardest by the ongoing LPG shortage.
