A 29-year-old contract worker was electrocuted while working on an electric pole in the Jeedimetla on Wednesday.

The deceased, Shanmukha Rao, a native of Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh, came to Hyderabad with his wife Kavya and their two children in search of employment. The family was residing in Moosapet, where Rao was working as a labourer under an electrical contractor identified as Saibaba.

According to sources, Rao was carrying out routine work on an electric pole near Vennelagadda when he suffered an electric shock and fell from the pole, leading to his death on the spot.

Fellow workers and relatives alleged that the incident occurred due to the contractor’s negligence, claiming that adequate safety measures were not in place at the work site.

Police reached the spot and shifted the body for postmortem examination. A case has been registered and further investigation is under way.
