New Delhi
oi-Madhuri Adnal
A
lot
of
parents
and
students
are
wondering:
Are
Delhi-NCR
schools
closed
tomorrow,
January
21,
2026?
With
all
the
winter
fog,
cold
waves,
and
air
pollution
alerts,
it
makes
sense
that
people
expect
schools
to
shut
down.
But
here’s
what’s
actually
happening-schools
are
mostly
staying
open,
just
switching
to
winter
hours.
That’s
left
a
lot
of
families
scratching
their
heads.
So
what’s
the
deal
with
timings?
Now
that
the
Commission
for
Air
Quality
Management
has
lifted
GRAP
Stage
IV
restrictions,
most
schools
in
Delhi-NCR
are
open
again.
In
places
like
Gautam
Buddh
Nagar,
the
school
day
runs
from
10
AM
to
3
PM
instead
of
the
usual
schedule.
The
idea
is
to
keep
kids
safe
from
the
worst
cold
and
fog.
Officials
have
made
it
clear:
these
aren’t
full-day
holidays,
and
if
the
weather
gets
worse,
they
might
tweak
the
timings
again.
Delhi-NCR
schools
are
largely
open
on
January
21,
2026,
with
winter
timings
due
to
fog,
cold,
and
air
pollution;
however,
parents
should
verify
with
their
schools.
In
Delhi-NCR,
the
school
day
runs
from
10
AM
to
3
PM,
and
in
places
like
Punjab,
school
hours
are
also
adjusted.
If
you’ve
got
a
student
in
Class
10
or
12,
they’re
expected
to
show
up
for
in-person
classes-board
exams
are
coming
up
fast.
Schools
are
cutting
back
on
outdoor
activities,
making
masks
mandatory,
and
using
air
purifiers
to
help
keep
everyone
healthy.
On
the
air
quality
front,
Delhi’s
AQI
has
improved
a
bit-down
to
378
from
410.
That’s
still
not
great,
but
it’s
enough
for
authorities
to
ease
some
restrictions,
so
schools
don’t
have
to
stay
closed
anymore.
Still,
parents
should
keep
an
eye
on
messages
from
their
own
schools,
since
districts
can
change
plans
last
minute.
Here’s
a
quick
look
at
what’s
happening
nearby:
-
Punjab:
Schools
are
open
with
winter
timings-primary
classes
from
10
AM
to
3
PM,
upper
grades
until
3:30
PM. -
Uttar
Pradesh
(Prayagraj):
Schools
up
to
grade
8
are
closed
through
January
20
for
Magh
Mela.
Other
areas
are
on
regular
schedules. -
Bihar:
Schools
reopened
on
January
19
after
winter
break. -
Jharkhand
&
Haryana:
Most
schools
are
open,
but
some
districts
are
starting
late
or
offering
hybrid
classes
because
of
the
fog. -
Basically,
schools
in
the
north
and
northeast
are
adjusting
hours
to
deal
with
cold,
fog,
and
pollution,
but
schools
in
the
south
and
east
are
running
as
usual.
So,
the
short
answer
is
no,
there’s
not
a
full
closure
for
Delhi-NCR
schools
tomorrow.
Most
are
open,
just
with
winter
hours.
Still,
double-check
with
your
school,
because
the
weather’s
unpredictable
and
plans
can
change.
