The long-pending demand for a Hosur airport has once again hit a roadblock after the Union government rejected the Tamil Nadu government’s proposal.
After this, strong political reactions were seen as DMK MP P Wilson took sharp exception to the Centre’s decision, calling it unfair, discriminatory, and against the development interests of Tamil Nadu.
The Union Government has once again rejected the Tamil Nadu Government’s proposal to establish an airport in Hosur, without meaningful consultation, a convincing justification, or regard for the legitimate aspirations of the people and economy of Tamil Nadu.

In his statement on X ,P Wilson said, “Union government rejected the Hosur international airport proposal without proper consultation, clear justification, or consideration of the aspirations of the people of Tamil Nadu. He reiterated that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has already announced on the floor of the Tamil Nadu Assembly that the state is fully committed to establishing an airport in Hosur.”
Hosur is one of Tamil Nadu’s fastest-growing industrial hubs, located close to Bengaluru. The region has major manufacturing units, export-driven industries, and MSMEs, generating thousands of jobs and attracting continuous investment.
According to the DMK MP, a Hosur airport would improve air connectivity, boost trade and exports, along with reducing pressure on the already congested Bengaluru international airport.
“The Hosur airport demand is not casual. It is part of a strategic development vision for Tamil Nadu,” Wilson said, adding that denying Hosur an airport directly affects economic growth and employment opportunities in the region.
150 km Rule Controversy and Centre’s Justification
The Centre reportedly cited an agreement between the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), which restricts the development of new airports within a 150 km radius of Bengaluru airport. P Wilson termed this agreement “illegal” and said it sacrifices the rights of Tamil Nadu for private commercial interests.
He questioned how the Union government could enter into such agreements without the consent of affected states. “Such a concession agreement is void ab initio when it operates against public interest and undermines the fundamental right to development and free movement,” Wilson said.
“Why should Tamil Nadu be denied equal treatment? Why are the same yardsticks not applied to Hosur?” he added.
Call for Reconsideration
Calling the rejection of the Hosur airport proposal a reflection of prejudice and imbalance in development priorities, Wilson said Tamil Nadu has been consistently neglected in the aviation sector. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and reconsider the decision in the interest of fairness, and inclusive development.
“Hosur deserves its airport. Tamil Nadu deserves justice. Infrastructure must serve people, not protect private commercial interests,” the DMK MP said lastly.
