Actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas is set to return to one of the world’s most watched entertainment stages, but the big question surrounding her appearance at the Academy Awards this year is not just about glamour – it is also about how much she will actually be paid for presenting at the prestigious event.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently announced a fresh list of presenters for the upcoming ceremony, and Priyanka Chopra’s name features among some of Hollywood’s biggest stars. She will share the stage with actors such as Robert Downey Jr. and Anne Hathaway, adding another global highlight to her already expansive international career.

Soon after the announcement, the 43-year-old actor acknowledged the news on social media. Posting the update on Instagram, Priyanka kept her message brief, simply writing: “The 2026 Academy Awards.”

While appearing at the Oscars is a major milestone even for established stars, many fans are curious about the financial aspect of such appearances. Surprisingly, presenters at the Academy Awards typically receive no payment at all for their role.

Industry reports indicate that presenters participate in the ceremony as a mark of prestige rather than for monetary compensation. According to the guidelines followed by SAG-AFTRA, the actors’ union in the United States, the Oscars presentation role is treated as an honorary appearance. Celebrities are often invited to participate voluntarily because of the enormous visibility and prestige associated with the event.

This means Priyanka Chopra Jonas is unlikely to receive any direct fee for presenting an award during the ceremony.

The situation is quite different for the hosts of the show. Past hosts, including Jimmy Kimmel, have revealed that hosting the Oscars comes with a modest payment that usually ranges between $15,000 and $25,000, in line with union minimums. Even this amount is considered relatively small compared with the massive global audience the event attracts.

However, while presenters like Priyanka are not paid appearance fees, they often receive lavish gift hampers distributed during the ceremony. These famous “Oscar gift bags” – sometimes valued at over $100,000 – include luxury products, travel packages, wellness services, and promotional items from sponsors. These are technically marketing samples rather than salary payments, but they remain a notable perk of participating in the ceremony.

Priyanka’s return to the Oscars stage is also not a first. She previously presented at the ceremony in 2016 and has since remained a regular presence at major international entertainment events such as the Golden Globe Awards and the Primetime Emmy Awards.

Indian representation at the Oscars stage has also increased in recent years. In 2023, Deepika Padukone presented at the ceremony the same year the blockbuster film RRR won Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu.
