Despite its poor showing across the State in the 2025 local body polls, the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) managed to garner more votes than the Congress-led-UDF in Thiruvananthapuram district, according to the data on vote share of the fronts published by the State Election Commission (SEC).
While the BJP-led NDA emerged the single biggest front in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, winning 50 of the 101 seats, here too the LDF managed to take home slightly more votes than the former, show data.
According to the SEC report released on Friday (December 20, 2025), LDF claimed 37.27% (5.10 lakh votes) of the votes in the panchayats while the UDF received 35.30% (4.83 lakh) and the NDA, 21.59% (2.95 lakh). In the panchayats, Indpendents and other parties won 5.83% (7.99 lakh) of the votes. Of the 73 grama panchayats, the LDF won 35 and the UDF 25.
The LDF had also won all the four municipalities in the district; Varkala, Attingal, Nedumangad and Neyyatinkara. In all four combined, the LDF had won 40.95% (55,133) of the votes, compared to the UDF’s 30.66% (41,273) and the NDA’s 23.48% (31,615), show SEC data. Other parties and independents won 4.90% of the votes.
In the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, the NDA won 34.52% (1,65,232) ) of the votes and 50 seats. The LDF had a marginally higher vote share (34.65% – 1,65,861) although its number of seats stood at 29. The UDF, which is in third position, claimed 26.28% (1,25,803) of the votes. The postponed election in the Vizhinjam ward will be held on January 12.
Swearing-in on December 21
Across local bodies in Kerala, newly elected members of local bodies will be sworn in on Sunday (December 21).
The elections to the posts of Mayors, Deputy Mayors, municipal chairpersons and vice-chairpersons and the panchayat presidents and vice-presidents are scheduled to be held on December 26 and December 27.
