Backed by in-principle approval from the Ministry of Minority Affairs, the centre will offer training, accommodation, and travel support for pilgrims travelling to Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

The Haj Committee of India on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding MoU with the Central Public Works Department CPWD. The agreement covers the construction of the proposed Haj House at Kharghar. The Press Information Bureau PIB said the project received in-principle approval from the Ministry of Minority Affairs on January 21, 2026.

Haj House project cost and funding

The release said CPWD will handle planning, design, and construction for the Haj House. CPWD is expected to follow set quality norms and complete work within timelines. The proposed centre is estimated to cost Rs 225 crore. The release added that the Haj Committee of India will fund the project fully.

Haj House services for Haj pilgrims

The planned Haj House is intended to support pilgrims before travel to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The release said it will offer orientation and training for the journey. It is also expected to provide accommodation and logistical facilitation. These services aim to help pilgrims manage pre-departure steps more smoothly.

Haj House location and Navi Mumbai International Airport

The release linked the Kharghar site to improved transport options in the area. It said the newly-inaugurated Navi Mumbai International Airport will strengthen connectivity for pilgrims. The airport is expected to make travel planning easier. The release also noted better logistical convenience for Haj-related arrangements.

Haj House planning review and CPWD coordination

The initiative followed a site visit in November last year by Dr Chandra Shekhar Kumar. Dr Chandra Shekhar Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs, reviewed the layout and technical aspects. The visit included officials from the Haj Committee and CPWD. The release presented the visit as part of project preparation.

After completion, the Haj House at Kharghar is expected to serve pilgrims from across India. The release said it will act as a key centre for capacity building. It is also meant to provide pre-departure support for Haj travel. The project is positioned as a long-term support facility for pilgrims.
