:
On a day when AMMK general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran announced his decision to join the National Democratic Alliance, DMDK general secretary Premallatha Vijayakant flagged the issue of deteriorating law and order and the need to ensure the safety of women in Tamil Nadu.
However, Ms. Premallatha revealed that there had been no invitation from the Bharatiya Janata Party for alliance negotiations.
The DMDK leader said the consultation with party office-bearers had been completed. “We have completed the consultation process with the district secretaries, who have given us their preference, along with their personal opinion, in a form. An official decision can be taken only after we complete the negotiation with other parties. It can be considered official only after we announce it… the information that trickles in until then is not factual.”
Ms. Premallatha said questions regarding the confusion prevailing in the NDA over alliance partners should be posed to Union Minister Piyush Goyal.
“The DMDK has not arrived at a final decision, but will announce it soon. It is our party… our future,” she said, adding that all political parties were friendly to them.
