Le Creuset’s Heart-Shaped Spoon Rest Is Selling Out Fast

Date:

This Valentine’s Day, can we dispense with the unnecessary heart-shaped cookware gifts? It’s not that I have anything against heart-shaped items, per se; they’re just so ephemeral. Novelty Dutch ovens and cake pans are sweet for a day, offering fleeting utility at best, and cluttering up your cabinet for the next 12 months at worst. If you’re going to give me a heart-shaped item, it had better be something I want to use year-round.

Le Creuset’s heart-shaped spoon rest fits the bill. It’s lovely, and it doesn’t scream “Be My Valentine.” Roughly the size of my palm, the petite heart-shaped dish offers plenty of space for spoons, spatulas, ladles, and even open tongs — just like the brand’s standard spoon rest does, only cuter. And not only does the spoon rest keep food off my countertops or table, but the gently curled lobes of the heart are high enough to prevent spills and splatters. I’ll even put a teabag on it after it’s done steeping, without worrying that any errant tea will drip out. It’s heatproof, too, up to 500°F. The steel spatula that got scorching hot sitting in your cast iron skillet? Lay it on this spoon rest without a care in the world.

The brand’s iconic stoneware itself is plenty sturdy, and it’s finished with two features that set it apart from other spoon rests. Number one: I’m a huge fan of Le Creuset’s three signature ridges, which line the inside of the heart shape. They’re easy to mistake as a design flourish, but they actually keep tools from sliding around once they’re placed.

Number two: Le Creuset’s classic, non-porous glaze. The virtually nonstick glaze cleans up easily in the dishwasher between uses, while resisting scratches, chips, and dents. Here, it comes in a handful of vivid colors that match other Le Creuset items in my collection: cerise, chiffon, peche, Provence, and white. Get a few! Why not?

But my favorite thing about this spoon rest is that I won’t put it away after February 14. The heart shape isn’t just cute, it’s practical, providing extra protection from stains, spills, and splatters while adding appeal to the countertop. I’ll use it year-round, and I daresay anyone you choose to give it to will, too.
