Mumbai BMC job scam: Two youths allege Rs 23.43 lakh fraud over civic posts

Mumbai Police are investigating claims that two youths were cheated of Rs 23.43 lakh after being promised supervisor roles in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation water department. The accused allegedly posed as a civic staffer, took payments through bank transfers and cash, and issued a fake joining letter and identity card before offering cheques as part of a settlement.

Police said two young men were allegedly duped of Rs 23.43 lakh. The men were promised jobs in Mumbai’s civic body. The case came to light after a complaint at Kasturba Marg police station. The accused reportedly claimed links with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and took money in parts.

The complainant, Chandra Kishore Prasad, is 26 and a UPSC aspirant. Chandra Kishore Prasad lives in an MHADA transit building in Kandivali West. Police said Chandra Kishore Prasad was introduced to the accused, Himanshu Mohan Mishra, by friend Adarsh Shobhnath Yadav. The official said the complaint was recorded on Saturday.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation job scam details

Police said Himanshu Mohan Mishra claimed to be a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation staffer. Himanshu Mohan Mishra allegedly promised two supervisor posts in the civic water department. The official said Himanshu Mohan Mishra assured the jobs were guaranteed after payment. Himanshu Mohan Mishra also promised a refund if the jobs did not happen.

Trusting the offer, Chandra Kishore Prasad paid in instalments, police said. Around Rs 12 lakh was transferred through bank transactions. Another Rs 1 lakh was given in cash, the official added. Police said the accused later gave a fake BMC joining letter. A fake identity card was also provided to build confidence.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation job scam second victim and cheques

Police said another youth, Shobhit Premnarayan Tripathi, faced the same approach. Shobhit Premnarayan Tripathi was allegedly cheated of Rs 10.43 lakh. The accused reportedly used the same method in this case too. Police said both victims later asked for their money back. The accused then reportedly offered a settlement.

As part of the settlement, police said four cheques worth Rs 22 lakh were issued. The cheques were drawn from the accused’s brother’s bank account, the official added. All four cheques bounced, police said. A case has been registered against Himanshu Mohan Mishra and Adarsh Shobhnath Yadav. Further investigation is underway.
