The full version of the new Aadhaar app is going to be launched tomorrow, January 28th which will have some major changes in how Indians access and manage their Aadhaar details.
Rolled out by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the upgraded app will make Aadhaar services more secure and user-friendly, allowing users to update and share their Aadhaar details digitally without relying on physical cards or repeated visits to Aadhaar centres.
UIDAI had first introduced the new Aadhaar app under an early access programme in November 2025, and the full public rollout is now expected as part of UIDAI Day celebrations.
Update Aadhaar Mobile Number Anytime, Anywhere
One of the biggest upgrades in the new Aadhaar app is the ability to update the mobile number linked to Aadhaar anytime and from anywhere. Until now, Aadhaar mobile number updates often required visiting an enrolment centre. This change is expected to benefit millions of Aadhaar holders who depend on their registered mobile number for OTP-based authentication.
Key Features of the New Aadhaar App
The upcoming Aadhaar app introduces several new features. Users will be able to manage up to five Aadhaar profiles on a single device, provided all profiles are linked to the same registered mobile number. This feature is especially useful for families managing Aadhaar details for children or elderly members.
The app also allows masked Aadhaar sharing, enabling users to share only partial details such as name, photograph, and a masked Aadhaar number through QR codes or verifiable digital credentials, without revealing the full 12-digit Aadhaar number.
Biometric Security and Offline Access
Security has been strengthened with biometric authentication options, including face authentication and fingerprint login. Users can also lock or unlock their Aadhaar biometrics directly through the app, Another key highlight is the offline Aadhaar verification mode, which allows identity verification even without an internet connection. This feature is expected to be particularly helpful in areas with low or unstable connectivity.
The new Aadhaar app will also provide activity logs, allowing users to track when and where their Aadhaar was used.
Users will be able to initiate updates for Aadhaar details such as mobile number, address, name, or email ID directly within the app. The app provides step-by-step guidance, making the update process simpler and reducing paperwork.
