Nyxy Nyx, the prolific Philadelphia slowcore crew with the annoying-to-type name, have been cranking out lo-fi DIY releases for many years, but their recent Cult Classics Vol. 1 was their first-ever studio release. It’s one of Stereogum’s top shoegaze albums of the year. Just last week, Nyxy Nyx followed that LP with a new self-titled record. Now, they’ve got yet another new song, and this one features Madeline Johnson, better known as Midwife.
Midwife released her own album earlier this year, teaming up with Matt Jencik for the collaborative record Never Die. She’s been homies with Nyxy Nyx for a while. Last year, they made a 7″ together. Johnson also appears on one of the tracks from that recent self-titled record. And now she’s also on “dreaming in Raincoats 2” a prettily dour swirl of a song. The drums echo, the guitars chime, and the voices wrap around each other with languid grace. Check it out below.
