The 2026 Academy Awards took place at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre tonight, March 15. This year, Sinners broke the record for most nominations—Ryan Coogler’s film was up for 16 awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another followed close behind with 13 nominations; Marty Supreme, Frankenstein, and Sentimental Value each had nine.
Ultimately, One Battle After Another took home the coveted Best Picture and Best Director awards, while the inescapable KPop Demon Hunters hit “Golden” won Best Original Song. It beat out Raphael Saadiq and Ludwig Göransson’s “I Lied To You” from Sinners; the titular song from Train Dreams, written and performed by Nick Cave and Bryce Dessner; and more.
Göransson did end up taking home a trophy, though, for Best Original Score behind Sinners. His fellow nominees were Alexandre Desplat (Frankenstein), Jerskin Fendrix (Bugonia), Jonny Greenwood (One Battle After Another), and Max Richter (Hamnet).
This year’s Oscars was hosted by Conan O’Brien, who opened the show with a video montage of himself dressed as the creepy villain of Weapons while being chased by a sea of children. Eventually, he and the horde of kids burst into the theater and sprinted down the aisles. O’Brien faked an award win for himself while onstage, during which he was knighted, blessed by the Pope, and got a live original song performed in his honor by Josh Groban.
