The 98th Academy Awards (Oscars Awards 2026) concluded at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, bringing together some of the biggest names in the film industry to celebrate the year’s best achievements in cinema.
The night’s biggest honour, Best Picture, went to One Battle After Another, starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The film, which received 13 nominations, emerged as the biggest winner of the night with six Oscars. Paul Thomas Anderson won Best Director for the film and also took home the Best Adapted Screenplay award.
The 98th Academy Awards saw “One Battle After Another” win Best Picture and six Oscars, including Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson. Michael B. Jordan won Best Actor for “Sinners,” and Jessie Buckley won Best Actress for “Hamnet.”
In the acting categories, Michael B. Jordan won Best Actor for his performance in Sinners, while Jessie Buckley won Best Actress for Hamnet. The supporting acting awards went to Sean Penn, who won Best Supporting Actor for One Battle After Another, and Amy Madigan, who won Best Supporting Actress for Weapons.
Sinners also performed strongly in the technical categories, winning Best Cinematography for Autumn Durald Arkapaw and Best Original Score for Ludwig Göransson. One Battle After Another additionally secured Best Film Editing and Best Casting for Cassandra Kulukundis.
In other technical awards, Frankenstein won Best Production Design, Best Costume Design for Kate Hawley, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling. The Best Sound award went to F1, while Avatar: Fire and Ash took home Best Visual Effects.
In the music categories, the Oscar for Best Original Song went to “Golden” from KPop Demon Hunters, which also won Best Animated Feature. The Best Animated Short Film award went to The Girl Who Cried Pearls.
In the documentary categories, Mr Nobody Against Putin won Best Documentary Feature, while All the Empty Rooms won Best Documentary Short Film. The Best International Feature Film award went to the Norwegian film Sentimental Value, marking the first time a film from Norway has won in the category.
The Best Live Action Short Film award was shared by The Singers and Two People Exchanging Saliva.
The ceremony also paid tribute to several legendary figures who passed away over the past year, including Robert Redford, Diane Keaton and Rob Reiner.
Overall, the ceremony highlighted major wins for One Battle After Another, Sinners and Frankenstein, making it a memorable night celebrating performances, technical achievements and cinematic storytelling.
