AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Saturday came down on Chief Minister M.K. Stalin over the incident in which unidentified persons threw country bombs on a police vehicle on Tiruchi-Chennai National Highway near the Perambalur toll gate.
Criticising Mr. Stalin for “not allowing the police to function freely,” Mr. Palaniswami, in a post on his social media handle, stated that the incident happened when a history-sheeter, hailing from Madurai, was being taken for interrogation. It led to four police personnel suffering injuries.
The present situation in the State was such that those who were indulging in acts of crime had “no fear of the police or this government.” The law and order situation in the State had become “a laughing stock”, he added.
Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran urged the State government and the Police Department to ensure that those responsible for the incident were arrested and the police personnel were given due protection.
