Renault is set to revitalise its presence in India by reintroducing the Duster, a mid-sized SUV. Fabrice Cambolive, Renault Group’s Chief Growth Officer and CEO, announced this strategic move on Monday. The new Duster will compete with popular models like Maruti Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, and Tata Sierra in India’s competitive passenger vehicle market.
Renault’s focus on key regions such as Latin America, Korea, Turkey, Morocco, and India has demonstrated its ability to compete globally. “Over the last few years, we have focused our presence in key regions such as Latin America, Korea, Turkey, Morocco, and, of course, India, proving that Renault can compete at the highest level internationally,” Cambolive stated. He emphasised that India plays a crucial role in Renault’s growth strategy beyond Europe.
Renault’s Strategic Moves in India
A significant development for Renault was acquiring full ownership of the Chennai manufacturing plant. This facility is known for its quality and operational excellence. “A few months ago, Renault group became the full owner of the Chennai manufacturing plant,” Cambolive said. This acquisition strengthens Renault’s ecosystem in India.
The Chennai plant acquisition involved Renault buying Nissan’s 51% stake in RNAIPL. This move ensures Renault’s complete control over the plant. Cambolive highlighted the importance of this integration for faster operations and better customer proximity. “This integration allows us to move faster, to be closer to customers and to deliver great cars for Indian consumers and around the world,” he said.
Leadership Changes and Future Plans
Stephane Deblaise has been appointed as CEO of Renault Group in India. Cambolive noted that Deblaise’s leadership would ensure alignment across all activities. “The appointment of Stephane Deblaise as Chief Executive Officer of Renault Group in India will ensure strong leadership and clear alignment across all activities,” he noted.
Renault’s commitment to hybrid and electric technologies positions it as a key player in energy transition efforts. The company aims to continue being a global brand while focusing on sustainable technologies. “Renault has always been and will continue to be a global brand,” Cambolive added.
Production of the Duster at Renault’s Sriperumbudur plant ceased in 2022 after ten years since its first unit rolled out in July 2012. The unveiling of the new Duster marks a new chapter for Renault in India. “Today, we are opening a new chapter with the unveiling of the new Duster,” Cambolive stated.
