Sonic Rolls Out 4 New Sonic Smasher Burgers, Plus a $6 Meal Deal

Date:

  • Sonic Drive-In is adding four new All-American Sonic Smasher burgers to its menu on January 12, expanding its smashburger offerings for a limited time.
  • The new lineup centers on a classic double-patty cheeseburger made with hand-smashed Angus beef, American cheese, and traditional toppings, served on a grilled potato bun.
  • The launch also includes a $6 meal option, part of the chain’s broader push to attract cost-conscious diners with familiar flavors and bundled pricing.

Sonic Drive-In is expanding its smashburger lineup with four new All-American Sonic Smasher burgers, set to launch nationwide on January 12 for a limited time.

The new lineup builds on Sonic’s existing Sonic Smasher platform, which debuted in August 2024, and arrives as fast-food chains continue to compete aggressively on value. As prices rise across the industry, bundled meals and familiar menu items have become a central strategy for brands trying to appeal to diners who are cutting back on restaurant spending.

At the center of the rollout is the All-American Sonic Smasher, which the company describes as a classic American cheeseburger designed to deliver premium quality at a lower price. Each burger is hand-smashed and made to order, featuring two Angus beef patties seasoned and seared for crispy edges and a juicy center. The patties are layered with American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, crinkle-cut pickles, diced onions, ketchup, and mayo, then served on a soft potato bun that’s grilled before assembly.

Alongside the new smashburgers, Sonic is rolling out a $6 meal designed to appeal to diners watching their spending.

In addition to the standard double-patty version, Sonic is also introducing a triple-patty All-American Sonic Smasher, along with bacon and triple-bacon variations. Together, the four burgers expand the existing Smasher lineup without replacing the original Sonic Smasher, which will remain available on menus.

“The Sonic Smasher proves you don’t have to settle,” said Ryan Dickerson, Sonic’s chief marketing officer, in a statement. He positioned the burger as a premium, made-to-order option intended to compete not only with traditional fast food but also with fast-casual chains, while still remaining accessible in price.

Alongside the new burgers, Sonic is launching a $6 All-American Smasher Meal. The value meal includes an All-American Sonic Smasher, a choice of medium tots or Groovy Fries, and a medium soft drink or iced tea. The meal will be available at participating Sonic locations nationwide, both on-lot and through the Sonic app.

Value meals have become a key battleground for fast-food chains over the past year, with brands leaning on bundled pricing to keep customers coming back. With its expanded All-American Sonic Smasher lineup and $6 meal, Sonic appears to be betting that straightforward flavors, customizable options, and predictable pricing will resonate with diners looking for a dependable fast-food option this winter.
