T.N. is at suboptimal pace of growth, says Governor R.N. Ravi

Date:

Governor R.N. Ravi on Sunday contended that Tamil Nadu was at its suboptimal pace of growth. The Governor shared his vision for Tamil Nadu as a technology and innovation hub at the Technology for Bharat 2026 Summit organised by Pan IIT Alumni Association in Chennai.

The Governor hailed Tamil Nadu’s enormous potential to be the leader in technology and innovation as the State produced over two lakh engineers every year, has the highest Gross Enrolment Ratio in higher education, and filed the maximum number of patents.

‘Lack of investments’

“However, despite such impressive basic numbers, it has not been able to enthuse the investors as, due to visible and invisible costs of enterprise, they have been moving to other States,” the Lok Bhavan in a social media post quoted the Governor as saying.

“Though entrepreneurs incubate their ideas in Tamil Nadu, they move to other States for scaling up.” The post further said: “Similar lack of enthusiasm is seen in the existing businesses in their further expansion within the State. As a result, the State is at its suboptimal pace of growth.”

The Governor highlighted the prevailing dichotomy between State and non State-run educational institutions in terms of quality of education and called for urgent intervention to improve the quality of education in State-run institutions.
