Consequence named Jane Schoenbrun our 2024 Filmmaker of the Year for their extraordinary I Saw the TV Glow, and the teaser trailer for their third film, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, makes it clear that the director isn’t done exploding the entire horror movie genre. Starring Hannah Einbinder of Hacks and the iconic Gillian Anderson of The X-Files, the new movie features Cronenbergian imagery mashed with a deep awareness of horror tropes.
The official description only hints at the wild turns this trailer takes: “After years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is handed over to an enthusiastic young director for resurrection. But when she visits the original movie’s star, a now-reclusive actress shrouded in mystery, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and delirium.”
