In a joint operation, the Kazipet Police and the Task Force Police have arrested a gang involved in kidnapping children in Warangal city and surrounding areas, rescuing five children who were sold illegally to childless couples.

The arrested accused were identified as Kodupaka Naresh (42), a resident of Ghavapur village in Peddapalli district, and Velpula Yadagiri (32), a resident of Shantinagar in Peddapalli town.

Addressing the media at his office in Hanamkonda on Saturday, Police Commissioner Sunpreet Singh said that unidentified persons kidnapped a five-month-old boy, Mallanna, son of Kanna Naik, while he was sleeping with his parents on the footpath outside Kazipet Railway station early on December 28, 2025. Based on a complaint lodged by Kanna Naik, Kazipet Police registered a case and launched an investigation.

“Special teams from the Kazipet police station and the Task Force were constituted as part of the probe. Acting on technical inputs and field evidence, the police apprehended the accused while they were conducting reconnaissance near Kazipet Railway Station in a rented car, allegedly attempting to kidnap more children,” he said, adding that the accused had confessed to kidnapping Mallana and admitted to kidnapping four other children earlier. They revealed that the children were sold to childless couples by falsely claiming that they were brought from orphanages.

Based on the confession, the police rescued Mallanna from Lingayyapalli village in Jannaram mandal. Meanwhile, a 10-month-old baby girl kidnapped in August 2025 from Warangal Railway Station was rescued from Naspur in Mancherial district. Another 10-month-old baby girl kidnapped in June 2025 from Ramagundam Railway Station was rescued from Jagtial district.

All five children were safely rescued. The couples who had illegally purchased children without any legal documentation were also taken into custody.
