Two unidentified bodies were reportedly found floating in Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) canal near Pothulakunta village of Kothacheruvu mandal in Sri Sathya Sai district on Saturday evening.
Villagers who noticed the bodies in the canal alerted the police. However, the police stated that the bodies could not be retrieved immediately due to the heavy flow of water in the canal.
According to the police, the bodies of a man and a woman were seen drifting towards the stretch near Sri Sathya Sai Prashanthi Nilayam railway station. Police suspect that the deceased could be a married couple, however, authorities said this could be confirmed only after the bodies are recovered and identified.
Meanwhile, police personnel were deployed at the spot and efforts are under way to retrieve the bodies. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
