Enterprise data protection and backup company Veeam Software on Wednesday announced a set of cyber resilience and artificial intelligence (AI) skilling initiatives for the Northeast, including a regional readiness report and partnerships with universities.
The announcements were made at the Northeast Cyber Resilience & AI Transformation Summit in Guwahati, attended by representatives of the Assam government, universities and industry.
With more public services, education systems and businesses in the region moving online, cyber security preparedness and trained talent have become a bigger focus for both state institutions and private firms.
Against this backdrop, the US-based firm said it has launched a Northeast-specific programme under its wider Bharat Cyber Suraksha mission.
A key announcement at the event was the launch of the “Northeast Cyber Resilience & Digital Readiness Report 2025”, prepared with the Northeast India Public Policy Forum.
According to the company, the report contains recommendations on cyber security, protection of citizen data, skills development and digital infrastructure.
It said the report is intended to help institutions improve incident response and align with requirements under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act and CERT-In, India’s nodal cyber incident response agency.
The company is also collaborating with Gauhati University, Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU), Assam Don Bosco University and Assam Down Town University to set up Cyber Resilience Centres of Excellence and introduce cyber security and AI courses aligned with industry needs.
In addition, Veeam rolled out an awareness and skilling drive titled “Main Hoon Saksham” campaign, at ASTU and Assam Engineering College (AEC) on the first day. The programme will be taken to other universities and institutions in the region, with a focus on cyber awareness, hands-on training and AI-enabled security skills.

Speaking to students, Veeam’s Vice President and Managing Director for India and SAARC, Sandeep Bhambure, said the North-East was becoming an important region for secure digital growth.
“India’s digital expansion is rapidly extending beyond metros, and the North-East represents a critical frontier for secure and AI-led growth. As digital services scale across governance, education and enterprise ecosystems, cyber resilience must become foundational,” Bhambure said.
He said the company was combining resilience frameworks, skilling and awareness efforts to help institutions in the region become “cyber-ready, AI-ready and future-ready”.
Jeevan Basavaraj, Secretary, Department of Innovation, Incubation and Startup, Government of Assam, said trusted data systems and AI-ready talent would be important as the state expands its digital and innovation ecosystem.
“The summit provides an important platform for government, academia and industry to collaborate on securing the Northeast’s digital future and positioning Guwahati as a strategic technology hub,” he said.
Veeam said the Northeast initiative is part of its broader mission, under which it plans to train more than 100,000 professionals in data protection, ransomware recovery and cyber security, set up more than 100 Cyber Resilience Centres of Excellence across the country and create over 25,000 jobs.
