‘Women Are Roaming Around For LPG Cylinders, Black Marketing Is Rife In Haryana’: Anurag Dhanda

Aam Aadmi Party leader Anurag Dhanda has accused the Modi government at the Centre and the BJP government in Haryana of failing to manage LPG supply, saying a serious cooking gas crisis has emerged across the state and ordinary consumers are facing long queues, higher costs and disruption of daily life.

Dhanda said the situation has become so severe in several parts of Haryana that many households and small eateries have started turning to wooden stoves and other traditional fuel options. According to Dhanda, many small businesses, including food outlets, are on the verge of shutting down because they cannot secure enough LPG cylinders at affordable prices.

Describing the ground situation, Dhanda said that in many towns and cities, people are standing outside LPG agencies from early morning. Even after waiting for several hours, many return home without a cylinder. He mentioned that in Panipat, Karnal, Hisar and nearby districts, people are often in line for 7 to 9 hours, yet still do not receive refills as agency shutters are pulled down.

Dhanda claimed reports from multiple districts show a steep fall in LPG deliveries compared with regular days. At some locations, around 200 cylinders are reportedly distributed within minutes from a single agency, while hundreds of people remain standing in queues with nothing left for them. Complaints are also emerging about cylinders being diverted and sold at inflated prices instead of being supplied through proper booking.

Haryana LPG gas crisis: black marketing and soaring cylinder prices

Targeting the government over alleged black marketing, Dhanda said that in Ambala, commercial LPG cylinders costing 1450 rupees are being sold for 2800 rupees, while in Panipat many buyers are compelled to pay 2500 rupees for a commercial unit. Domestic cylinders priced at 990 rupees are reportedly being sold between 1500 and 1800 rupees, placing significant pressure on household budgets and small traders.

Dhanda further alleged that in several areas, consumers are receiving delivery confirmation messages on their phones despite not having booked any LPG refill. According to Dhanda, such incidents clearly indicate fraud in the name of LPG gas distribution. He added that hotels, dhabas, tea stalls and other small vendors relying on commercial gas cylinders have also seen their work badly affected by this shortage and price rise.

Haryana LPG gas crisis: impact on women, workers and poor households

Dhanda said that in many villages of Haryana, women are making repeated trips to LPG agencies from morning till evening, hoping to secure a cylinder. Elderly people and daily wage workers are being forced to leave their work and stand in queues, which cuts into family income while still not guaranteeing fuel for cooking.

Calling the situation deeply unfortunate, Dhanda said it is tragic that in a country where the government frequently highlights the “Ujjawala Yojana”, poor and middle-class families are now struggling to light their stoves. Dhanda added that complaints of black marketing are also coming from several places, where a single cylinder is allegedly being sold for 2500 to 3000 rupees, which Dhanda said clearly reflects administrative failure.

According to Dhanda, the BJP government focuses mainly on publicity and slogans, while the reality on the ground is completely different. Dhanda argued that if there had been proper planning and management, Haryana would not be facing such an LPG crisis. Dhanda said the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi has shown that with honest intent and effective systems, people do not have to endure such hardships for basic services.

Dhanda demanded that the Central and Haryana governments immediately increase LPG supply, take strict action against black marketing and ensure that agencies in every district receive adequate stock. Dhanda stated that the Aam Aadmi Party stands with the people of Haryana and will keep raising this issue strongly until normal LPG availability is restored and affected households and businesses get tangible relief.
